W-Squared Productions

W-Squared Productions was, if we’re honest, created for very selfish reasons. We just wanted to make the kinds of plays that we ourselves wanted to go and see.

It just so happens that the things we want to see, just happen to be the same things you want to see too. Now, that’s pretty lucky if you think about it.

With this in mind we have the freedom to be as diverse, eclectic, original, or traditional as we see fit. We will never pigeon hole ourselves into a specific genre or ideal, the only remit we have is ‘The Play is the Star’.

Simple as that really.

In our quest to bring you theatre of the highest quality we have a number of W-Squared DO’s and W-Squared DON’Ts just to maintain our selfish aims and to stop us ‘selling out’.

DO - Choose work that engages the audience, the reaction is key. All efforts will be made to provoke a response whether it will be fear, empathy, joy, revulsion. They’re all fair game, so be prepared.

DON’T – Chase the commercial, high concept, pop-tastic musical pound. We’re more into theatre that makes you think, not theatre that removes the need to.

DO - Spot the talented ones waiting to catch a break, then give them the platform to catch it. Writers, directors, actors, designers, there is so much talent waiting for the exposure it deserves. We’re going to give these people the chance to succeed and work alongside seasoned professionals. If we can assist a future giant in theatre get to the top, we’ve done our job well.

DON’T - Overprice our tickets. We understand that not all theatre lovers are made of money (ourselves very much included), but everyone should be able to afford to see a show. Our philosophy is…… If you keep it cheap they will come.

DO -Take risks, we will always challenge ourselves as much as anyone. Just because we’re new doesn’t mean we’ll shy away from the difficult projects, if the play is good enough we will do it.
